This High Tech Tool Ensures a Perfect Bite with Smile Makeover

02/22/2010

Once a new smile design is chosen and the teeth have been sized, colored and placed – there’s a final step that ensures highest quality of a smile makeover. Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, uses a digital bite recorder in his Beverly Hills dentist office, in order to perfect the bite with any work he does.

He likes to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to high-tech equipment and procedures. Without proper tools for inspection, dentistry can be a guessing game, not a true science. Dr. Maddahi is renowned for the beautiful and natural new smiles he creates for his patients every day.

A digital bite recorder is a computerized bite sensor. It shows the dentist the order in which the teeth bite down on one another, and how much pressure is being exerted. It has particularly important application with multiple crown cases, as the dentist can swiftly create a stable bite without repeated visits back to the office for additional adjustments.

Dr. Maddahi explains, “When working on a smile makeover case, I am often fitting several crowns at a time. I use the T-Scan II to digitally record the patient’s bite. I used to estimate the bite, using articulation paper or waxes. It was not until I saw the accuracy of this high-tech device that I could really control that the bite. Now my work is much faster and very exact.”

The T-Scan II, Occlusal Analysis Solution, which is made by Tekscan, graphically displays both forceful and time premature contacts to the dentist, for predictable occlusal control during adjustment of crowns and veneers. Thereby, accurate evaluation and access occlusion (the spatial relation of the teeth when the jaws are closed), including the depth of the mark, its surface area, amount of force, and the contact timing sequence are obtained.

This high-tech device contains 1370 cell sensors in its bite recording surface. This recording is then analyzed by viewing it on a computer screen. The exact sequence of the bite is discerned digitally and the dentist then is able to make exact adjustments to the crown or veneer.

Dr. Maddahi continues, “The T-scan produces graphic images that are valuable tools for the dentist, and wonderful visuals that help me to show the patient their occlusal trouble and to help them better understand the solutions we offer. One of my goals is to get my patients in and out in the shortest time possible, and avoid return appointments.”

Dr. Maddahi continues, “Once the patient’s smile has been transformed into a beautiful natural look, I want to ensure that the new teeth are completely comfortable. It is important to make sure that the cosmetic dentist you choose has state of the art equipment, including a digital bite recorder. In fact, where cosmetic dentistry is concerned, you are in the realm of aesthetics, so it only makes sense that the dentist you choose is both an artist and a dentist.”

Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, ensures he stays abreast of all new technical advances in dentistry. This not only simplifies but also improves his patient care in cosmetic dentistry and routine dental procedure.
