Imagine Veneers as Thin as Contact Lens, Many Advantages

02/09/2010

These porcelain veneers, as thin as contact lenses, are able to solve an array of dental problems. They can create a perfectly aligned and permanently bight smile. Offered at the Beverly Hills office of Los Angeles dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, Lumineers®, can be the solution to many cosmetic dental issues.

They are just right for heavily stained or discolored teeth, teeth that are chipped or show signs of aging, teeth with gaps, cracks or for simple smile misalignment. Lumineers can also be the best solution for those who want straight teeth without years of braces, and even for teeth with tetracycline stains.

Lumineers are very popular and have become such a perfect choice for certain cosmetic dentistry patients. The expertise of a proficient and experienced dentist such as Dr. Maddahi is required to determine where veneers or Lumineers would best be used.

The natural beauty of these specialized porcelain veneers is the reason for their popularity. This high-end porcelain veneer is actually a custom-made “shell” applied over the surface of the tooth. They are made out of a very thin, yet long-lasting, dental porcelain material.

They are so very slim that little or no tooth reduction has been found to be necessary prior to the placement of these veneers. Additionally, the natural looking translucent quality of Lumineers provides an untreated super natural look for veneered teeth, even more than what was available in the past.

Lumineers were originally developed by a dentist, who was disappointed with the dental materials he had been trained to use. He began to formulate his own bonding materials and porcelain laminates. These products allowed him to restore, preserve and enhance his patients’ teeth without the extensive grinding, drilling and preparation necessary with other veneers on the market.

Unlike conventional veneers, because Lumineers have been applied over teeth that are not shaved down, this procedure needs no anesthesia and is pain-free. Also, the process is completely reversible. But, they are very long lasting, clinically proven to at least last up to 20 years.

“The application of Lumineers is normally a much simpler and quicker process than traditional veneers”, Dr. Maddahi says, describing the method. “It is always a good idea to use procedures that keep our patients comfort in mind. If the patient’s condition works with Lumineers, we are able to go from start to finish in two short office visits and there is no need for shots, temporaries or drilling.”

Typically, it takes only two office visits to complete the Lumineers smile upgrade. Impressions are taken during the first visit and the mold is sent directly to the Cerinate Smile Design Studio, where custom “shells” are made. On the second and final visit, the patient’s teeth are scored lightly to ensure a good bond.

Once the Lumineers are fitted onto the existing teeth, and set in with a bonding agent and special curing light, the procedure is compete. That is all there is to it. No pain, no sensitivity, no numbness – just a beautiful, bright and perfectly aligned new smile.

Lumineers can also be used to brighten bridgework and discolored crowns or to improve any discoloration on pre-existing dental restorations. These paper thin, long-lasting porcelain veneers are often the best choice for cosmetic patients.
