Survey Says: People Appear More Intelligent, Wealthy and Successful After Cosmetic Dental Work

05/12/2009

What have become the most ordinary reasons an individual chooses cosmetic dental work? Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi shares his patient’s motivation for dental procedures. Some of them feel they need to look healthier or appear younger. Many of them feel they need to improve their professional image.

Smiles are one of the first things to be noticed when meeting or greeting someone. A good first impression in both social and professional situations is, of course, important to the furthering of a relationship. It is no longer just a “vanity” factor to have a beautiful smile. Clean, bright, white teeth have become expected in most professional situations.

A survey was conducted by the American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry. It was found that when people get a smile makeover from a cosmetic dentist they are not only considered more attractive and popular, but they have a better business persona as well.

The survey used before and after photos of patients who had had cosmetic dental work done. When comparing these pictures, an instant response to what was seen was that the patient looked more attractive after cosmetic work. It also was assumed, by survey, that they were more popular with the opposite sex.

An interesting and unexpected response was that people thought the after-photos were of people who were wealthier, more intelligent and more successful in their careers. As a note, none of these before pictures showed rotten or missing teeth or terribly bad dental health problems.

Dr. Maddahi discusses why people come to him to improve the look of their smiles, “Why do people come for cosmetic dentistry? I can’t tell you the most important thing, but many have recently taken a photo or they have looked in the mirror and for them their teeth look bad. Many realize that they just don’t smile in order to hide their teeth, or they find themselves putting their hand in front of their mouth. Some even restrict social activities because they feel their teeth look bad and are a bad reflection on them.”

Many patients are inspired by what they see on television or by other friends or relatives who have had cosmetic work done. Dr. Maddahi continues, “They may see a makeover show and before that had felt hopeless. They often see that another person had even worse teeth before and they see they can be helped. The other thing is that sometimes my new patients have been putting off a visit to the dentist for several years. They have an emergency and once they are here, they come to understand that dentistry has changed and that we can help them without any of the trauma that has been associated with dentistry. Then they elect to take care of all their dental needs.”

One patient of Dr. Maddahi, Mrs. B., had this to say about how the dental work made a difference for her, “You can’t put it into words. It makes such a change in your life. It made a change not only aesthetically, but functionally. My previous dental work was replaced and aesthetically and functionally it totally improved. Everyone notices. ‘How much younger you look!’ I hear it all the time. ‘You have to be a movie star to look like that!’  That’s a big improvement. I want people to understand what a difference it can make.”

The ease and cost of cosmetic dental work today makes it really accessible. Improvement of a smile for either professional or personal reasons is a worthy investment. In just a few weeks, with two or three appointments, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, can create a beautiful, natural new smile.
